HBS Privacy Policy

HBS is a broadcast studio that runs on your own computer. It signs in to your YouTube channel so it can start and manage your live broadcasts. This page says exactly what it reads, where that is kept, and who else sees it — which, in almost every case, is nobody.

1. Who we are

HBS is published by Hostreck Inc., in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Questions about this policy, or about anything below, go to info@hostreck.ca and are answered by a person.

2. What we ask Google for, and why

When you choose Sign in on the Stream page, Google asks whether HBS may act on your behalf. These are the permissions it asks for and the only reasons they are asked for:

HBS does not upload videos, read your comments, alter your existing videos, or touch your subscriptions.

3. Where your sign-in is kept

Google returns two tokens. They live in a single file on your own computer, alongside the app's other settings, and they are sent to Google and to nobody else:

• macOS — ~/Library/Application Support/HBS/youtube-tokens.json
• Windows — %APPDATA%\HBS\youtube-tokens.json

Choosing Sign out deletes that file. Deleting it by hand has the same effect. Nothing about your sign-in is copied anywhere else, encrypted or otherwise, because there is nowhere else for it to go.

4. What never leaves your machine

• Your video and audio. Composed on your computer and sent directly to the destination you configured — YouTube's ingest servers, or any other RTMP address you typed. Hostreck is not in that path and could not be.
• Your scenes and settings. Sources, layouts, audio levels, encoder choices and recordings are files in your own support folder. No cloud sync, no backup service.
• Usage of any kind. No analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry, no licence check, no phone home. The app makes no request to any Hostreck server at any point, because none exists.

5. The other places HBS connects to

Every network request the app makes is either one you asked for or one Google requires. In full:

• Google — accounts.google.com and oauth2.googleapis.com to sign in, and www.googleapis.com for the YouTube Data API. Only while you are signed in.
• Your streaming service — the RTMP or SRT address you configured, carrying the show itself.
• Hardware vendors, if you ask — pressing the button to install the Blackmagic DeckLink driver or the NDI runtime fetches it from that vendor's own site. Those requests go to them under their privacy policies, and only when you press the button.
• Links you open — the buttons that open your YouTube control room, live chat or analytics hand a URL to your browser, which then behaves like your browser normally does.

6. Limited use of Google user data

HBS's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Concretely, and without exception:

• Google user data is used only to provide the live streaming features you can see in the app.
• It is never sold, and never transferred to anyone, for any purpose.
• It is never used for advertising, profiling, or building any audience or model.
• No human at Hostreck reads it. There is no mechanism by which we could: it does not leave your computer.

7. YouTube API Services

HBS uses YouTube API Services. By signing in to YouTube through HBS you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

8. Taking access away

You can end HBS's access to your account at any time, in either of two places:

• In the app — Stream → Sign out, which deletes the stored tokens from your machine.
• In your Google account — myaccount.google.com/permissions, which revokes the permission at Google's end whether or not the app is installed. This is the one to use if the machine is gone.

Broadcasts HBS created remain on your channel afterwards, because they are yours. Delete them in YouTube Studio as you would any other video.

9. How long anything is kept

By us, nothing, at any point — there is no store to keep it in. On your machine, the sign-in stays until you sign out, revoke it, or delete the file. Google keeps its own record of the permission you granted, which the link above removes.

10. Children

HBS is a tool for running a broadcast and is not directed at children under 13. It collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

11. Changes to this policy

If what the app does with your data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Material changes will also be described in the release notes of the version that makes them, so the change arrives with the software rather than quietly beforehand.
