HBS is a live production studio for macOS and Windows. Cameras, NDI feeds, SDI capture, screens, windows, clips, stills and text go into scenes; you cut between them on preview and program, mix the audio, and send the result straight to YouTube — or to any RTMP destination you like.
What it does
Every input a room has
USB and built-in cameras, NDI over the network, Blackmagic DeckLink SDI, display and window capture, video and audio files, images, colour, text and browser sources.
Scenes, preview and program
Build a look, check it on preview, then take it to air. Sources move, scale, crop, lock and layer, with keyboard nudging for the last pixel.
A real mixer
Per-source faders and meters with peak hold and clip lamps, a pinned master strip, and a waveform drawn on a decibel scale rather than a raw one.
Stream and record at once
Hardware H.264 and HEVC encoding where the machine offers it, with a local recording running alongside the stream at the quality you choose.
Paced for the eye
The show clock runs on a real-time thread and presents in step with the display, so a loop that is correct frame by frame also looks correct on the glass.
Nothing in the middle
No account, no subscription check, no cloud. The picture goes from your machine to the platform's ingest and nowhere else.
Signing in to YouTube
Going live on YouTube normally means creating the event in YouTube Studio, copying a stream key back into your encoder, and switching windows to check whether the ingest is healthy. HBS does that through YouTube's own API instead, so GO LIVE is a button.
With your permission, and only while you are signed in, the app:
- creates the live broadcast and its stream on your channel, and binds them together;
- reads back the ingest address, so no stream key is ever copied by hand;
- takes the broadcast live, and ends it when you are done;
- asks YouTube how the feed looks from its side — bitrate, dropped frames, configuration warnings — and shows that next to the app's own numbers;
- shows the email address of the signed-in account, so you can see which channel you are about to go live on.
Nothing else HBS does not upload videos, read or moderate comments, change your existing videos, or touch your subscriptions.
Your sign-in stays on your computer
The tokens Google issues are written to a file in your own application support folder and sent to Google alone. Hostreck runs no server for HBS, so there is nowhere else for them to go. Signing out deletes them, and you can revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions at any time. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
A stream key still works, too. Any destination can be driven as plain Custom RTMP with a key pasted in, with no Google sign-in involved at all.
Availability
HBS is distributed as a signed installer for macOS 12 or later (Apple silicon and Intel) and Windows 10 and 11. Both carry everything they need to run; the optional NDI runtime and Blackmagic DeckLink drivers are fetched from their vendors, on request, from inside the app.
